House Bed in Shared Girls Bedroom

We have officially been at this house for a year now and it took this long to finally complete the girls bedroom. One bedroom down, two more to go! It feels so great to have the girls shared bedroom styled. I have been moving towards a much more minimalist style the last few years now and feel that the floral wallpaper, simple shelving and pastel colours all work well to create a welcoming feel without being too much clutter. The room is a small bedroom for two sisters to share, but I think that it works well. Less is always so much more.

Note: Some items featured within the room were gifted to us from the company. As always, we only share about items that fit well into our lifestyle and we truly enjoy.

My first task to creating their space was installing the floral wallpaper (light pink floral from Wayfair.ca). I called on the helping hand of my friend Keisha, Loving Littles Blog, one day to tackle this project. As we went through applying the wallpaper, I was so glad that I had another set of hands. Through it was pretty simple to put up, with kids running around it was required. We spent the afternoon applying the wallpaper.

Little hack: Use a paint roller to add a light amount of water to the back of paste-able wallpaper to evenly disperse water.

The walls in the room were previously a medium tan colour. I found that it made the room look super shadowy and was not a fan of the tone. After a little convincing my husband agreed that we he would paint the walls to match the rest of our house, Winter White. So glad we did this! I love how crisp it looks, feel that it lightens up the room so much and it just looks so much more airy in the small space they have to share.

The girls have shared a bedroom since around the time that Evelyn turned one. Most nights one of them ends up in our bed at some point, but we still love that they are learning to share space, communicate with each other and build a stronger relationship from the experience. Looking back at my childhood I was always sharing a room with one of my sisters and always loved the connection that it built between us.

It might look like a small bedroom for two sisters but it’s just right for these two. We aim to keep most of the toys out of their bedroom and their closet is in our room. We still need to figure that one out. Maybe a little DIY house shaped portable closet is in order. Wouldn’t that be cute!

For now I am just happy that there are decor pieces on the walls, the floral wallpaper is up and the girls are loving it! Keeping it simple is totally worth it, easier to up keep and still looks adorable.

  • Proud mama moment. Sophie came home from kindergarten one afternoon reciting this Remembrance Day poem over and over. It’s pretty cute! Turn your sound on and listen too 😊❤️
  • This picture makes me melt. I set the camera on self-timer and wanted to get some action shots of the three of us working on the "do try this at home" section of the @guinnessworldrecords book. When I looked back at the captures and I saw Ezras very content grin, I just couldn't even. Seriously no words. It reminded me that our kids don't care how we show up (myself pictured with a messy bun & PJs), it's the time we put in that is remembered. •

#ad Thanks to @guinnessworldrecords for encouraging us to attempt one of their 5 maker challenges and seeing how much fun the kids had blowing up balloons and learning to make balloon dogs. After a few tries I completed on in 2 minutes, might not be the fastest time in the books, but we saw some good progress from my first attempt ha! If your kids love creating, reading about all sorts of random and crazy accomplishments then head to the blog and check out what's new in the Guinness World Records 2019 edition. #GWR2019
  • This month the Quaker® brand has been working with Boys and Girls Clubs locations across Canada to provide new winter coats for families in need and spread the #JoyofWarmth and there's a way to help which involves you! Yes, YOU! During the month of November, when you share the hashtag #JoyOfWarmth and tag @QuakerCanada on your public Facebook, Twitter or Instagram profile, Quaker will provide a bowl of warm oatmeal to a child in-need at Boys and Girls Club locations across the country, to a maximum of 100,000 bowls. Spreading the #JoyofWarmth is more important than ever this winter. Think about this for a minute: according to a study by @QuakerCanada, more than 1 in 5 families (21%) in Canada have struggled financially to ensure their child is appropriately dressed for winter.... One...in... Five! That's a huge percentage! Let's do our part setting kids and families up for success this winter and get to 100,000 bowls friends! More info on the blog. #spon
