Just Our Ordinary Sunday

March 23, 2016

Mom Lifestyle

The alarm clock goes off at around 8 o’clock, and by alarm clock I mean one of the children abruptly comes into our room asking for us. Sundays are always nice, right now it is the only day of the week that we get to be together as a family, so when there aren’t really any plans we like to enjoy that family time together.

Once a month my husband and I help out in the big kids and nursery at our church and then on the other Sunday’s of the month we do enjoy going to church, but it isn’t something that is mandatory in our home, we ask the kids as well as see how we feel ourselves after the week we just had. On this particular Sunday we were watching our nephew and had been prepping for a possible open house so we stayed in.

My husband is usually the first to get out of bed, he is much better at mornings then I am. For me it’s hair up, no makeup, comfortable clothes for at least the first hour (usually more) in the morning. With the ability to be more alive in the mornings, my husband has taken on being the official waffle maker of the house and we all love our waffles on Sundays.

It isn’t out of the ordinary for any day of the week we spend time with our family, more days then not during the week do we see someone from either side of our family, for sure a benefit of having so much family so close to home. We are blessed with three nephews so far and on this particular Sunday we were graced with the pleasure of my sister’s son, Buddy.

After wrapping up a waffle filled morning we relax, watch the kids play about the house and my husband enjoys his coffee (I have never been much of a coffee drinker, tea for me // maybe that’s why I am not a morning person? ha!). We like to head outside and get some fresh air; bike rides, park dates, visits to the farm, or a special outing often occur.

Somewhere in there our son has likely asked us to play on the ipad or watch a show, which we try to limit to being as minimal as possible. Lately with the sicknesses of winter passing through the house it seemed that our days were filled with much more lounging and electronics, but as the sun is shining longer and the grounds are heating up we have been enjoying the crisp fresh air.

Dinner time comes and we like to sit down as a family, chat about what is on our minds and enjoy that time together all sitting and eating. After dinner the night swiftly passes with bath times for both kids, stories, and good night tuck ins. Ezra goes to sleep a bit later then Sophie so we have been working on maximizes that time with him by pulling out a board game or the Uno cards.

Just over the last week bed times have changed a bit as we removed the rail from Sophie’s crib (due to her climbing over) we have been adjusting to the switch to a big girl bed and now Mom or Dad tucks her in every night, laying with her, rubbing hear head and saying some prayers. We are figuring out this new routine in the ever changing journey of parenting.

The kids are in bed and it’s often time for work for momma and my husband relaxes on the couch with a favourite show, or lately it has been looking for a place for us to live because yup, we just sold out house.

*These photographs are from a recent family photoshoot that we did with McLachlan Studios on a Sunday that just so happened to help frame this post and show you a visual look into our home and family. Thank you Kaylyn (McLachlan Studios) for capturing some moments of parenting that otherwise would be lost in just an ordinary day. You can view our full gallery of photos here.
