Monkey and Peanut - Stylish Children's Belts
7

“Say Goodbye to droopy pants and hello to playground roving fashionistas.”

Monkey & Peanut you had me at your tagline. I am a sucker for great branding and businesses that launch with a solid look and feel. From their packaging to their slogan Monkey & Peanut launched with a bang! Over the last few months I have been able to try out some of these stylish Monkey & Peanut belts and indeed said goodbye to those droopy jeans.

Danielle, founder and designer of Monkey & Peanut, is such a pleasure to be around. Recently I’ve had the pleasure of attending a few markets where Danielle is present, her smile is contagious making it impossible not to want to get to know her better and learn about her dreams for Monkey & Peanut. With her initial launch Danielle has made some changes to her belt design and we are head over heels with her recently launched new and improved custom belt buckles.

It is such a pleasure to share about Danielle’s journey on the blog today and also offer an exclusive coupon code for all of you readers to stop the sag on your toddlers pants. Enjoy!

1. Ok, tell me? The name, where did that come from?

Monkey&Peanut…. from my babies! We called Ethan our little monkey from the day we found out he was coming and even had his room in a sock monkey theme. Our sweet Ashlyn always felt “tiny” inside belly… like a little peanut, and those names just stuck! As I started this business, I wanted my kids to be involved somehow and it just made sense!

2. Share a little bit about how your business got started.

To be honest… from a “need”. As I started to play more “dress up” with Ashlyn…. I found that all the pants I had with loops just didn’t fit in the waist. I made my first belt and I got compliments on it wherever we went. I had an itch to start something while on mat leave the first year and so it just happened.

3. What was the biggest challenge for you when getting started?

There have been many challenges along this journey, as I am sure any entrepreneur will tell you! But my biggest challenge when starting… was to actually START. To rid my mind of self doubt and to believe that I can do anything that I want. To take the leap from a steady income and take a risk. The biggest driving force for me has not been to become rich…(although that’d be nice!) It was and still is to see what I can do on my own, to get outside of my comfort zone and to see what other opportunities exist for me.

4. What support did you have to overcome that challenge?

Thank god for family and friends! My 2 very successful brothers (who both own/run multiple business/projects) have inspired me and offered very helpful advice. Along with entrepreneur friends providing insight and support along the way. I really couldn’t have taken the leap without their support.

5. What have you enjoyed the most about running your own business?

Having the outlet to use my creative side. I am a lover of crafting, sewing and just doing anything creative! Also, meeting some amazing women in the industry, I’ve been able to develope new friendships and love the network of small businesses supporting one another!

6. Share a little bit about yourself and what you like to do in your spare time. (if you have that? ha!)

With the little I have… I make the best of it! Health and fitness are very important to me… so I’m still trying to squeeze workouts in during nap time… usually with my phone in one hand! I also love to craft and bake and try to get my kiddos involved with that as much as I can!

7. What are some plans/goals that you have for Monkey & Peanut?

We are hoping to have our custom packaging all set in the next month so we can start to doing more retail. We have also been working tirelessly on developing a custom buckle along with new print designs. As we grow, I’d love to add more products to our store and we have some cool ideas….but you’ll have to wait and see about that!

  • Just about to head to Whistler with this guy and so excited to spend some time just the two of us! It’s been a whhhiiilllleeeeeee
  • Part way through our lunch the kids started to bicker back and forth, creating a rather not-so-enjoyable moment for everyone. It's those moments that us as parents can make a difference, how we handle situations with our children allows them to learn and grow through our words and actions. We spoke about the importance of being kind and how much more enjoyable our time together is when we are all speaking respectfully and sharing. .

I then shared with the kids that that was exactly why I was taking a few pictures with our pizza, to share with others about the launch of @panago_pizza's 2nd annual Bullying Awareness and Prevention campaign. That Panago wanted to celebrate young people who are being kind and looking out for others in their communities. Our kids are learning everyday, it's our job to be great role models, encourage their kind behaviour and then celebrate them in their good choices. .

Do you want to take a minute to celebrate a child in your life? From now until Nov 25th Panago is asking for you to nominate a deserving youth and share a story them using compassion to drive change. Go to my stories for more info and the link to nominate #sponsored #asliceofnice
  • Hey 👋🏻 it’s kinda late... for some I suppose.. I’m usually up til midnight working away and wanted to hop on and share about my blog/small business journey. It was the start of this year that I really “proclaimed” this as my business and really felt so proud of what I’d created. It’s been A LOT of work to say the least but it’s brought so so much joy, opportunities and relationships. I love creating and sharing here, but most of all I love encouraging and connecting with YOU! Thanks for being here and for reading this. I think today I all the sudden realized we were in November and the end of the year is near. How did that happen?! If you made it through this little love note, share something about you below.. maybe how you discovered my blog/Instagram or what a goal is that you have? Excited to read through those comments in the AM.
  • That day we found a marble staircase and @juliechristinephotography made a fart joke. She gets me.
  • Proud mama moment. Sophie came home from kindergarten one afternoon reciting this Remembrance Day poem over and over. It’s pretty cute! Turn your sound on and listen too 😊❤️
  • This picture makes me melt. I set the camera on self-timer and wanted to get some action shots of the three of us working on the "do try this at home" section of the @guinnessworldrecords book. When I looked back at the captures and I saw Ezras very content grin, I just couldn't even. Seriously no words. It reminded me that our kids don't care how we show up (myself pictured with a messy bun & PJs), it's the time we put in that is remembered. •

#ad Thanks to @guinnessworldrecords for encouraging us to attempt one of their 5 maker challenges and seeing how much fun the kids had blowing up balloons and learning to make balloon dogs. After a few tries I completed on in 2 minutes, might not be the fastest time in the books, but we saw some good progress from my first attempt ha! If your kids love creating, reading about all sorts of random and crazy accomplishments then head to the blog and check out what's new in the Guinness World Records 2019 edition. #GWR2019
