Shop Spotlight: Bébé de Luxe

SMALL BUSINESS FEATURE

A few months back I was introduced to Bébé de Luxe through friends raving about it on Instagram. I started following their account and ended up winning a giveaway for some product shortly after following. My knowledge on their product was pretty slim at the time but I was so excited to see what everybody was so excited about.

After receiving my package in the mail, I planned a bath time to myself, gave the tub a major scrub and grabbed a candle and magazine to make the experience that much more relaxing. It wasn’t when I was in the bath that won me over, it was way before that, the moment I opened my jar and got the sweet smells of a coconut and oatmeal cookie.  Time has passed since that first bath and I am so happy to say that since then I have formed a relationship with Amanda, founder of Bébé de Luxe, and I am so pleased to share more about her and Bébé de Luxe with you.

Amanda is not only a mompreneur with Bébé de Luxe but she also works full-time as a senior paralegal at a large downtown law firm. In the evenings she works hard to keep up with the Bebe Deluxe demand as well as spends time with her husband and son. I love how she describes herself as, “part granola and part luxury baby.”

Bébé de Luxe started as a DIY Christmas gift last year for Amanda’s friends and families, which was sprung from an “I can do that” moment that Amanda had not too long before that. All of her friends and family loved the gift and started suggesting to Amanda that she start selling. “I hummed and hawed for a couple months, keeping it in the back of my mind, the thought kept nagging at me and eventually, my husband and I discussed we would put 1K into the idea,” said Amanda.

After sending a bunch of samples to other local bloggers and mompreneurs Amanda was able to receive great honest feedback that allowed her to perfect her packaging and design. Orders started to come in and her first stockist, Delish General Store on Granville Island, ordered product for their shelves at the end of April. Since then, business has been steadily growing, stockists can’t keep the product on their shelves and Amanda works the constant struggle to keep up with orders and being a full-time momma (seriously we have a super mom on our hands, am I right?).

All of Bébé de Luxe‘s products are made with certified organic or organic practice Ingredients. (Organic practice can mean small farmers who can’t necessarily afford to go through the certification process) Amanda would never use any products that could be potentially harmful for our babies, and describes her ingredients to include “no nasties”.

“Currently we have our original Coconut & Oat Milk Bath, it is a luxury bath wash/soak for babies, ladies and men who love to be pampered.  It is great for any issues with dry skin, rashes and we have even had fantastic feedback from people suffering with eczema,” shares Amanda. These products stand out in the marketplace as Amanda has put so much attention to detail in the product itself to the finer details of packaging and shipping.

“We are also expanding our line with a bespoke baby bar specially formulated for us by my friend Corina at Corus Body Care.  I had been using Corina’s own baby bar on Rian for those particularly dirty-boy days and knew a collaboration with Corsus was the way to go. Made with organic practice ingredients, including olive oil, cocoa butter and coconut milk it is perfect for those days when baby needs a more thorough cleaning (think dirty little piggy feet from running around barefoot in the summer to those nasty diaper explosions).”

I love how much Amanda raves about Corina of Corsus Body Care. Amanda has dabbled in soap making a few times but never felt like she was the expert, this is when she knew that it would be beneficial to team up with Corina, who Amanda knows is an expert at her craft. “In order to give my customers the best of the best, I need to work with the best of the best and realize my own limitations.”

“I’m also working with Angela of KEWE Clothing, and just launched a collaborative Bébé de Luxe onesie.  Cannot wait to see your Luxury Babies in our stylish gear!” Each item that is within the Bébé de Luxe line isn’t released until it is perfect, and that is no surprise as each item breathes luxury and elegance.

When I asked advice from Amanda for someone starting out their own business she shared that the first thing she learnt was to be patient. She continued to explain that, “nothing, and I mean nothing, will happen as quickly as you want it to. Everything takes time, especially if you are a bit of a perfectionist.”

“Being an entrepreneur can be exhausting and feel overwhelming at times, but nothing feels better than seeing your “baby” on the shelves of some of your favourite stores and seeing pictures of the cutest littles bathing in a product their mommies can trust.  The sense of pride you feel is beyond rewarding.  “

Amanda has a lot of plans for Bébé de Luxe some of which are short term collaborations that she is so excited to share in the coming months, as well as long term goals. If things continue the way they are going Amanda will be looking at hiring help and continuing to grow the Bébé de Luxe line by expanding to Mama and Papa De luxe products too!

I just purchased two packs last weekend as I met Amanda at a small pop up downtown. It worked out perfectly as I have been meaning to order for a couple months. Can’t wait to take a bath!

I am so glad that you got to go to that pop-up Chantelle! I was sad to miss it. Also glad you got to get your hands on some, I have been using it on Sophie everytime I bathe her and just love it to bits!
