For Valentine’s Day a few blogger friends, The Cheerio Diaries and The Pampered Baby, and I got together with our daughter’s to plan a styled Valentine’s photo shoot. While getting everything together and gathering our thoughts the night before we realized that we didn’t have a cake topper. We chatted back and forth and then I thought of the idea of putting together a mini tassel garland cake topper to match the tassel garland we had for decor from Fun Fiestas by Ili.
I brought the tassel garland cake topper home because I wanted to share how easy this was to make! Follow the simple steps and you can put together for your next event in no time.
How to make a Tassel Garland Cake Topper
Materials:
- Decorative paper straws
- Tissue paper
- Twine
- Scissors
Step One: Cut up your tissue into three inch long tassels. I made nine groups of three strands of tissue for the garland. Create as many to your liking to fill the length of your desired garland.
Step Two: With your tassels in groups of three place each tassel above the other and then twist together in the middle of the tissue. Twist about a half an inch length. Fold in half and then twist the two sides together until they are secure. Leave a little loop at the top to thread your twine through the tassels.
Step Three: One by one thread on the tassels, either creating a pattern with the colours or at random, and wiggle the tissue around until it forms and lies to your liking. Add on all of the twisted tassels until your garland is complete.
Step Four: Tie the ends of your twine around the straw and fasten either by a knot, glue or tap. I have hidden my ends behind the hearts on the Valentine’s inspired straws created by Dixie and Twine.
Step Five: Bake a cake and plunk your gorgeous garland on your cake, it is time to celebrate!
