“The seed was planted in the Fall 2010 after having our twin girls Léla and Quinn. We were lucky to receive a bunch of merino wool hand-me-downs from family living in Norway but once the girls outgrew the clothes we couldn’t find suitable replacements in North America. As parents who have spent a lot of time playing and exploring the outdoors, we were already big fans of the comfort and natural technical benefits of merino but were left scratching our heads as to why more kids brands didn’t offer up more quality wool options.”
On the blog today we are taking a look into the story that started Luv Mother, some of their peeks along the way and goals for the future. Luv Mother stands out to me as their items are made from only the best quality and the comfort is very much appreciated (I could prove this as Sophie loves the beanie and neck warmer, where others I have tried annoyed her). Having the opportunity to learn more about this Canadian brand is such a pleasure.
Learning from businesses around you is one of the best ways that you can grow yourself. I love hearing about the different challenges and rewards that entrepreneurs come across through their businesses, you can see how they overcame different challenges and what has made them stronger. When asking Luv Mother about some of these they replied, “The biggest challenges have come from being a complete unknown in the business and gaining the trust and confidence of our suppliers and customers. It didn’t take long to realize just how big and global the apparel industry is and how ‘small’ a small company can be. Not to mention we primarily sell directly from our website so getting the word out about the brand has kept us keeping on.”
“Thankfully the collection has been very well received. The positive feedback and PR attention is opening new doors and motivates us to keep spreading the word.”
“Making the product in the country we call home was definitely the right call and has been extremely gratifying. The entire process, from concept to production has been very collaborative and the results are nothing short of amazing. We’ve gotten to meet and learn from some seasoned, talented craftsmen and women along the way and have forged relationships and knowhow that will always be part of the brands DNA.”
“The fact that we are a kids brand lets our work and family lives overlap quite a bit and spending more time together is always a huge plus.”
For myself when looking for clothing for my children I want to be sure that it is going to be worth the money that I am putting into it. Our kids grow so fast but they also put a lot of love into their clothes with how active they are everyday. Everything from the material to where it is made is a very important factor. Luv Mother insists on using only the best materials for our children’s skin for comfort and durability.
“Our first collection is entirely made using soft, natural and highly functional merino wool. It’s the perfect fabric for active clothing and kids are, if nothing else, active. Merino keeps you warm when times are cool and the other way around too. Effectively managing the body’s microclimate, even if you didn’t know you had one. The merino wool found in any luvmother™ garment is sourced from either certified non-mulesed or ceased-mulesed farms in Australia and New Zealand. All farms must comply with regulations governed by the RSPCA and the New Zealand Animal Welfare Act. Our mill partners encourage sustainable farming practices including environmentally aware processing, “landcare” re-vegetation projects and the creation of nature corridors.”
“Oh yeah, dispelling old myths, its not itchy, is durable, has a built in SPF and your kids won’t want to take it off….” — agreeing full heartedly to this as Sophie was beyond loving her items!
Some of the top three best sellers for Luv Mother right now include; are ‘the Everyday Shirt’, ‘the Aha Hoody’ and our ‘Everywhere Crew Sweater’. The new accessories line released in December are also go to favourites!
Luv Mother has a very very bright future ahead of them it is very evident, I love the goals they have established from the beginning and continue to stay focused on and work towards daily. Luv Mother shares, “One of the main goals established right at the get-go was to never make too many things, learn from experience, minimize compromise and constantly try to improve our existing designs. Starting this summer we’ll be releasing small, seasonal capsule collections that are fun to develop and allow us new ways to spread the luv.”
This post could not have been done without the participation of my fantastic photographer.
Wedding and Family Photographer E Fraser Photo did a fantastic job capturing
Sophie near the water in her Luv Mother attire.
Also big thanks to Luv Mother for allowing me to interview them and showcase their brand on CW & JW.
