So you are about let’s see 5.. 6months pregnant and it’s time to get a gift registry in order for that baby of yours. It can all seem super overwhelming especially if it is your first time walking into a baby store and you instantly feel over stimulated. That is where I come in, I have put together a list of some tips for creating your baby gift registry and if you follow it hopefully things will go without a sweat.
There are lots of things that you have to keep in mind and your baby isn’t a newborn for that long of a period, so let’s be practical about some things and figure out what is a need, a want and a I never even thought about that. There are a number of places where you can create a baby registry if you are not local to me, but if you are, I recently had the opportunity to check out the brand new buybuy BABY store in Langley, BC, who has an incredible set up for baby registry’s if you are looking for where to get started.
8 Baby Gift Registry Tips for New Moms Creating their List
1. Bring a ‘Newish’ Mom Along
First and in my opinion the most important, bring a newish mom along with you to tell you what you might need, what your didn’t know existed and explain why one thing might be better then another. This mom friend should be someone who you trust their judgement and you feel shops similar to the way you do. For example, if you are on a tight budget and you bring someone that literally has evvverrrry gadget for their kid, that might not be the best match.
One of the best features about buybuy BABY is their expert registry consultants. They basically act like the “Newish” mom, as their knowledge about products and what works for new and expecting parents is superior! They are experts in the products they carry and work closely with each customer to guide them through the registry process and find the best items to fit their lifestyle. They offer personal shopping appointments and other great registry tips here!
2. You Need Less Then You Think You Need
When registering keep in mind that you really need less then you might think, so make sure you register for what you know that you need, before you get to the wants. Getting the needs covered first is a great idea as well because I found that they are usually the least exciting purchases, where as when you start clicking around the store for the wants you will be excited to be spending more time in the store and more excited about the items you are adding.
3. Big Ticket Items
You want to have a variation of price points on your registry from a hundreds of dollars to tens of dollars. Everyone’s shopping budget is different, and everyone wants to get something that you want. Take the time to find out what stroller and car seat are best going to suit your needs and lifestyle and be sure to register for those as you might be surprised by a larger gifted item.
4. Make it Easy, Research
Do the hard work before you get to the store to start your registry. As I mentioned about you are going to want to register for items like a stroller, car seat, highchair, etc. These big ticket items take time to decide on and it is something that you might want to do before you go in for registry day. You might want to do that by going into the store on an earlier visit or reading online reviews from reliable sources.
5. Make an Appointment
Don’t waste your time, when you are ready to start your registry and have planned a time to go into the store make sure they know you are coming. It is great to be able to have someone ready and expecting you
6. Shop With a Theme
When you have an idea for the look and feel that you would like for the babies room you can add to your registry accordingly and allow for matching and complimentary baby items so that when everything is selected and gifted you will still end up with a cohesive feel. At buybuy BABY they organize different themes for you to allow you to easily visualize some great theme ideas.
7. Take Your Time
Don’t go into it thinking that you will “finish quick” as it takes time to get everything finished. Plan for more time then you think you need and it will prevent any feelings of stress.
8. Don’t Forget About Yourself
Make sure to add things for yourself on the baby registry, because after all you are all the one pushing that baby out. You body is about to go through a lot of changes and it is perfectly ok to register for items that are going to make your job as a momma easier and more relaxing.
I hope that some of these tips have helped prep you for an exciting day of completing your gift registry. It can definitely be overwhelming, but if you bring the right person, do your research and are prepared to take some time to complete it you will have a great experience and get everything you need in one go, stress free.
