Lifestyle Goals Update and Benefits of drinking more water

One Month After Setting My Lifestyle Goals

Last month I shared my lifestyle goals in the post, “Setting Realistic Lifestyle Goals + Free Printable“. Today, I want to share an update on how well I have done with accomplishing my goals, the changes I’ve seen within my family, and how setting a routine has had a positive outcome on our lives.

Overall, I have found that trying to do less in the day has been a huge benefit towards accomplishing my goals. Last year I was trying to do everything, attending every event and making as many play dates as possible during the day. This is exhausting. This year I have been focusing on adding “nothing” days into the week and making sure that two days of the week I aim to stay home, get caught up, and focus on the to-do lists.

Let me touch base on my four goals and dive into the areas that have been successful, need more work, and where I have seen positive change.

Exercise: OK, this one, if I am being completely honest, has been the biggest struggle. I also know that it is the one that I need to focus on the most. From previous experience I know that the more I exercise, the better I can provide for my family. I always feel better on days that I exercise and I still need to make it more of a priority.

One way that I am going to change this is to bring it back into my weekly routine. Last week I walked to school, for the first time, to pick up Ezra. I was tired, but I also felt amazing for doing it. I had built it up in my head that the kids were going to complain about walking, but in reality, there wasn’t one complaint on the walk. Adding more exercise and including the kids in the weekly routine is a major focus for next month. It will be good to walk to school more than once a week, possibly two or three times.

Stay Hydrated: The more I drink water throughout the day, the more I see Sophie drinking it along with me. We have a little water bottle for her that she enjoys drinking from and I have made a point to try to have bottles of water in the diaper bag, car and around the house. I am at about 4-5 cups of water each day, which is a huge improvement from the start of the year.

Last month I opened up a Nestlé flavoured sparkling water for a little bath date that we had and she LOVED it! She kept wanting to cheers and then would take a big gulp. The fizzy flavoured water was the easiest and most satisfying ‘treat’ for the both of us.

Healthier Eating: I thought that I was going to have the hardest time with this. Cooking is something that I don’t particularly enjoy. My husband gifted me a juicer for Christmas and I have been trying to make some fresh pressed juice each week. The best part is that I have made some recipes that the kids love too! Everyone loves getting involved in the making process and it has turned into a fun activity and a way that we can sneak more veggies into our diet.

Creating a routine around meals has also made a big impact, I am trying to go to the grocery store with more of a meal plan in place (still working on this) and less of just buying random items. This goal still has a long way to go, but I am happy with the steps that are in place, to create more of a routine around meals to better our family.

Stay Positive: I am generally a pretty happy person and try to find the best in every situation. On days where I am responding more positively to stressful situations, I can see the difference in the attitudes of my children. Staying positive around the kids, and giving them the benefit of the doubt, makes a huge difference in their attitudes as well.

Great job! Am inspired by your healthy lifestyle goals. Am also drinking more water than before, am finding it helpful in clearing the ‘fog’ in my brain in the morning 😉
