DIY First Birthday Greek Yogurt Painting

This post was written on my blogs original platform and originally dated in 2014.

A few weeks ago I came across a beautiful painting that Sarah, from Numpfer, created with her daughter.  She created a post about how they created their picture and the simple steps to do it on your own [see her post here].  I absolutely adored this idea, and what a great keepsake the painting would be for my daughter as her first piece of art, for her first birthday.  We also got to use the painting as part of her birthday party decor, it added the perfect touch.

To create our painting we decided to switch up our painting supplies from watercolour (what Sarah used) to a greek yogurt and food colouring mix. Sophie likes to put things in her mouth so this was a great alternative to not have to worry about her eating the paint and just let us have fun with it.

Materials:

1 blank canvas
painters tape
greek yogurt
food colouring
wet cloth

Tips & Tricks:

When painting with greek yogurt, you really don’t need to use very much, and only a drop or two of food colouring will do the trick.  If you have thick spots of the yogurt on the painting when it drys it will flake off, keep it to a thin layer.  When pealing off the painters tape, be sure to peel off carefully as to not rip the canvas.  I kept a wet cloth handy as my daughter does not stay in one place for too long and you want to wipe hands before they grab onto anything.  I washed her clothes right away to keep from staining and found everything came out in the wash with ease.

  • Quick day trip to the island, I took a tip from all of you and wore my lulus in anticipation of a full belly.
  • Cheers to Thanksgiving friends 💫 💕 I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to contribute to 8+ of @ilikeherstylevancouver’s print magazine. They’ve created such a great space for women to connect, inspire and encourage. My last contribution shares how I wear summer dresses & rompers in the fall, and I must say is one of my cutest articles yet. Also big thanks to @juliechristinephotography for capturing such cutie shots I can never pick just one.

You can find the print mag at all their rack locations (see details on website) or online.
  • What a joy it was to go out yesterday and show my support to two ladies who are such incredible women, role models, mamas, creators ... seriously all the things.

Can’t wait to flip through the pages of #fraichefoodfullhearts cookbook and be inspired to make some new things. Such a pleasure to celebrate with you both @jillian.harris & @fraichenutrition — you both radiate love and joy.
  • Our family is growing. Not one, not two, but THREE little GloFish are set up in the girls’ bedroom. I can't get enough of their bright, vibrant colours and the girls love that they have new friends that "keep them company" at night.

We love that #GloFish are Born Brilliant™. This means that their colourful traits pass from one generation to the next. Similar to most freshwater fish, these little fishies are super easy to care for.
Now all we are missing are their names, please help us out and comment below with your best fishie names.

P.S. The best way to show off the brilliance of your GloFish is with a blue LED light which can be used in both light and dark rooms. Visit @mrpetscanada online or in-store to learn more! *ad #GloFish #mrpetscanada #petfish #GloFishPartner
