One Week With Three

July 30, 2016

Mom Lifestyle

I can’t even believe how quickly the time has passed, we have just completed the one week milestone of having Evelyn by our side and like always that time flew by. Come Tuesday (yay for a holiday on Monday and one extra day) James will be headed back to work. My thoughts on that are all over the place and maybe good for another post, ha! For now let’s chat about how the first week went.

On July 21st she was born at 10:30 AM and we were both a little surprised by her early arrival. With my due date on the 24th and the fact that Sophie was a day over due I was convinced that Evelyn would be the same and that I still had a few more nights to complete some on going projects. At 12 AM on the 21st I went to bed after completing some ‘must do’ blog/design tasks. With three hours of sleep I woke up to contractions and this began her birth story, to be shared at a later date.

James’ parents had offered to watch both the kids for a couple days once Evelyn arrived (best gift!). They were also our first visitors along with the kids. Ezra and Sophie’s first time interacting with Evelyn wasn’t anything like I imagined, but totally what I should have expected. Both of the kids are daddy lovers and cling to him when he is around, it was no different in the hospital room. Ezra did come over to the hospital bed, after giving daddy lots of hugs he took a long look at Evelyn and said, “Awe, she is cute!”

Sophie did not pay much interest in her at all, but did give her a hug and kiss goodbye. Sophie was mostly excited to drink up my Starbucks refresher and also tell daddy how much she missed him. We continued to have more visitors that day and initially planned to go home the same day as everything was looking great, however as time progressed we started to notice concerns with my uterus as it was not hardening as it should and would continue to go soft then hard and soft again. As this is a high concern for bleeding/blood clots we decided to stay for a night to ensure that everything was safe.

The next morning we were doing better and headed home in the late afternoon, it felt so great to be home and in our own bed. I couldn’t believe how awesome I was feeling, since successfully having a VBAC and only ever having a CSection to compare for healing I was feeling unreal! Throughout the week we were able to enjoy family activities together, I could get up and pick up Evelyn myself for feeds and sleeping was just so much more comfortable in general.

My favorite part of the week was watching the kids interact with Evelyn. We knew that Ezra would be great as even though before she arrived he said he wasn’t excited, we just knew he was. He was the same way with Sophie but ended up being so smitten by her and such a huge help with all the little extra duties. We wondered about Sophie, she loved giving my belly kisses and talked about baby coming often but she’s a rowdy one and full of emotion so we just weren’t sure which way things would go.

She is so in love! More then I could have imagined, she loves calling her cute and telling us to ‘shhhh!’ when she is sleeping. Her gentle touch on Evelyn’s belly when she comes close gives me all the tingles and you can just tell that these two are going to make the best of sisters // fingers crossed.

I couldn’t have imagined it any better, and I know that we are going to have our challenges as everyone does, but overall when I look back on this week I feel so content, God is so good. I think about the worry and the wonder of adding a third and I think about how I should have given it over to God more and trusted. This week I am thankful, thankful for Evelyn and the beautiful gift from God she is to our family and thankful for all of you who have sent your love and congratulations, to those who have provided us with a meal and those that blessed us with a gift. It has been so so much appreciated.
