What is the gender? Unique gender reveal with plants

What’s Mommy Growing? Gender Reveal

Two days ago my midwife appointment was scheduled, my husband had just worked all night long the night before and was at home sleeping so I headed out of the house early and decided to go to Micheals Craft Store. I didn’t have any idea of how I was going to share the gender of our babe, I wanted to do something with confetti but there were two thoughts that were on my mind, ugh the cleanup and what if we missed the perfect shot. As I wandered the aisles of the store, I came across plain planters. I stared at them for a minute with Sophie in my hand tugging to get moving, and thought.. “I am growing something, boy or a girl… I am growing a baby sibling for my kiddos, how neat would it be if they could have something that somewhat symbolizes a baby growing.”

I picked up two of the planters and then then hit the paint aisle. “They can paint the planters in the colour of the baby to reveal it!” I thought to myself. So (keeping in mind this is before my appointment) without thinking and with a very impatient Sophie now in my arms because she has been trying to dart away, I grab a bottle of pale pink and purple paint, hit the cash register and head to my appointment. When I park the car and am getting Sophie out of the car I realize, “Sh*t, I don’t even know the gender yet, why the heck would I get pink and purple paint?” I shake it off and tell myself that I will go back and exchange for blue if need be.

Well, the appointment came and went, I decided that I didn’t want to be told but would rather open it up in an envelope, still undecided if I was going to wait for my husband or not to open at the same time. We get back to the car and well, let’s just say that envelope didn’t stay sealed for longer then a minute. Inside I read “Congrats! It’s most likely a… —>” ahh the anticipation, flip over and… “A GIRL!!”

EEKKK!!! Apparently I knew all along (hense the pink and purple paint) crazy how our bodies/minds work. I decided to bake my husband cookies, and to keep that short let’s just say it might not be the best way to share with your husband if you aren’t a baker. Mainly because I was impatient and putting icing on hot cookies never turns out looking well.

Make Your Own Gender Reveal Planters

Supplies:

  • Planter
  • Patio Paint (Outdoor/Waterproof)
  • Paintbrush
  • Favorite Plant (I loved that these ones had a rim of pink for our girl reveal)
  • Soil
  • Chalkboard Planter Stick

Directions:

I brought everything home, cleaned the pot and then laid out some newspaper for painting. I wanted the kids to do their own painting (however Ezra wasn’t into the colour choices) and painted the first coat all pink for Sophie. Holding the pot I let her use the paint brush to add splashes of purple. Let Dry.

Put in soil and Plant your plant of choice. Add your label to reveal the gender and Voila! Easy as that!

I can not even get over their faces here, Ezra didn’t want to hold the pink pot and his face pretty much sums up how he feels about being in a house with only two boys and three girls.

So did you guess right?
