Last week I had the pleasure to be a part of a special mamas event. Together we hosted a group of mamas, who were either pregnant or recently given birth. The goal was to bless these mamas and share knowledge and information around the post and prenatal yoga classes that Haven Yoga and Wellness offers in Abbotsford, BC.
From the moment I walked into Haven Yoga and Wellness I could tell it was a place I wanted to be. The space filled with natural light and the staff graciously greeted me with a warm welcome. I was excited to experience and learn more about their Post and Prenatal Yoga Classes. Right away I could tell that Rebecca, founder of Haven Yoga and Wellness, cares so much for community. Her welcoming and open personality made me feel comfortable and so excited to begin our class.

The afternoon started and ended with some socializing. We had a table decorated for the mamas to enjoy some healthy snacks and sweet treats. We really wanted to make these ladies feel special as their bodies are doing and have recently done some amazing things for their babies.
At the start of the yoga class Rebecca shared with us all how much she loves teaching post natal yoga. She said that it is so different then any other class as your babies are able to be present. This different dynamic is fun and so inviting for mamas. After just having a baby up until they are one year old you can bring your baby along with you. Most of the kids lay down beside their mamas while they practiced yoga, while other ones were more mobile and ventured around the room. The kids flocked to Rebecca as well, there is no doubt they also sensed her truly warm and welcoming personality.
There are so many benefits that come from practicing yoga both post and prenatal. Here are some key areas that you could benefit from by attending.
6 Benefits of Practicing Yoga Pre and Postnatal | Haven Yoga and Wellness, Abbotsford, BC
-
Beginners Welcome
You don’t have to have a background or and experience with yoga to attend pre or post natal classes, you just have to be willing to try. Any level of experience is welcome and encouraged as everyone is at the same place of getting to know our new bodies.
-
Build + Rebuild Strength & Stamina
Prenatal yoga focuses on building strength in all the right places for labour. Labour requires so much strength and stamina as well as learning to relax and breath while holding a certain position, perfect training for your upcoming delivery.
Postnatal yoga classes help women regain strength and energy that may have been lost during pregnancy. With a focus on specifically rebuilding strength in the abdomen, back and pelvic muscles which are often left weak and strained.
-
Release Tension
During pregnancy and after baby causes the body to experience a lot of tension build up. These classes are designed to release tension throughout the shoulders and neck, opening up the chest. This will leave mama feeling much more comfortable and less stressed.
-
Prepare the Body for Birth
During your prenatal yoga class the certified instructor will lead you through poses, guilded relaxation and controlled breathing that prepare your body and mind for birth.
-
Community Support
Classes will also address common issues and concerns that may arise in this new chapter of life. Rebecca is passionate about each woman (and man) that comes to practice at her studio. She has an evident passion for supporting moms and creating a space that is accepting and comfortable.
-
Babies are Welcome
You are encouraged the bring your babies to your post natal class. It is important to have a comfortable place that allows you to focus on yourself without having to leave your baby behind. Rebecca is often found multi-tasking, teaching and baby holding. This gives mamas have the opportunity to focus on themselves. (Ideal for babies aged 6 weeks and 1 year)
-
Connect With Your Body
Rebecca said, practicing yoga pre and post natal allows you to “connect with your old body under new circumstances.” There is so much change that comes the moment your body conceives. Feeling connected to yourself from the start of your pregnancy, through birth and after is so important and rewarding for your own well being.
“I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self-indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival.”
